      14.06.2017 vastu võetud maavalitsuse tegevuse lõpetamisest tulenev Vabariigi Valitsuse seaduse ja teiste seaduste muutmise seadus § 105"12 kohaselt lõpetatakse alates 2018. aasta 1. jaanuarist maavalitsuste tegevus. Kohaliku omavalitsuse korralduse seaduse ja teiste haldusreformi elluviimisega seotud seaduste muutmise seadusega (14.6.2017) muudetakse ühistranspordiseadust ja senised maavalitsuste ülesanded ühistranspordi korraldamisel lähevad maavalitsustelt 1. jaanuarist 2018 üle Maanteeametile. Maanteeameti ja MTÜ Viljandimaa Ühistranspordikeskuse vahel ühistranspordiseaduse § 15 lg 2 alusel sõlmitud halduslepingu kohaselt täidab ÜTS sätestatud ülesandeid maakonnas MTÜ Viljandimaa Ühistranspordikeskus, millele antakse üle ka avaliku teenindamise lepingutega seonduv (vt täpsemalt http://transport.viljandimaa.ee/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/Haldusleping-Viljandi-ÜTK.pdf)
